Updated: Apr 6, 2018

Using bounce flash is a great way to get evenly lit photos using a single speedlite. Here's a simple technique for baby photos along with prop ideas.

For this photo Sully was wearing his Superman costume from Halloween and I placed him on a fuzzy rug. I stood above him aimed my camera down, but turned my flash around to bounce off the the white ceiling. Nothing too fancy here, but it produced a memorable photo with good light. If you want to be a little creative, you can brush the threads of the rug in one direction or another to give the impression of clouds or flying. To be safe, I keep the aperture around 5.6. I'm not trying to be creative with depth of field here.

SETTINGS: 1/100 sec at f/5.6 ISO 400

What other questions can I answer about this lighting setup?
