In this night session I used a large umbrella and speedlite to illuminate my subject and make her stand out against the dark, nighttime background.

I love Canon and Yongnuo radio technology for these types of shots. No worries about cords or objects obstructing the flash sensors. First I exposed for the dark background, then added the speedlite shooting through a large umbrella. The 43" umbrella was just enough to spread the light over my subjects face and body and add some glow to the grass.

I love the matte finish on this photo. I did have to use the burn tool to edit out a tree that showed through the dark background.
